Abstract
Explaining the roots of the confrontation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the West in the post-revolutionary era has been a significant and frequently addressed topic in research over the past few decades. Some attribute this confrontation to the seizure of the U.S. Embassy on November 1979 accusing the Revolution and the Islamic Republic of anti-Americanism. Others, conversely, point to the coup of August 1953, tracing the roots of this conflict to U.S. interference and meddling in Iran’s affairs.
Given that the Eminence Ayatollah Khamenei was a key intellectual leader of the Revolution and a pivotal figure in the country's decision-making processes following its victory—particularly considering his thirty-seven years of leadership and guidance—understanding the foundations of his worldview and macro-level policies is essential to grasping the nature of this confrontation and the strategies of the Islamic Republic.
The article posits that the martyred Imam’s perspective on the United States and the West was grounded in a profound understanding of the foundations of Western civilization; furthermore, the confrontation between the Islamic Republic and the West should not be reduced merely to political or historical issues, but rather, this challenge is rooted in a fundamental conflict between the "grand vision of the Islamic Revolution" and the "foundations of Western civilization."
